HB 137 sponsor replys with new news
Dear Mr.Davis:
I apologize for my slow response. Since I last contacted you I have continued to research the bill. Last week I rode along with a State Trooper in Miami so that I could get a first hand view of the issue. During my ride along I witnessed some of the very acts my bill is trying to address and reinforced my view that something needs to be done.
I invite you to view this short news report that has footage of the ride along with Florida Highway Patrol http://video.nbc6.net/player/?id=188989.
In my last e-mail I had made you aware that the bill was going to be amended. The amendment will do the following, it will completely remove the speeding focus of the bill and only stunt riding will be addressed. It will require than a rider maintain two wheels on the ground at all times, a rider will have to keep both legs around the motorcycle at all times and a license plate will have to be permanently affixed to the bike so that it cannot be "flipped up" to hide it from police.
Thank you for expressing your concerns. They will definitely be taken into consideration. I am open to meeting with any person or group to discuss amendments to the bill. I believe that part of the process of creating a great law is being open to the ideas of others.
If I can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact my office.
Sincerely,
Carlos Lopez-Cantera
State Representative, District 113
