Heat Shields

Is there any way to stop the pinging noise from your heat shields when
your bike is cooling after you turn off the bike?

The only way I can think of to lessen the pinging or popping noise is to maybe wrap the exhaust in some exhaust wrap tape......of course then you loose all that pretty chrome.  That noise is part of the normal heating and cooling process of the exhaust.  Why the concern?  Is it keeping the neighbors baby up or does it alert the old man to the fact that you've been riding his scooter

Here for the Road

i had an old pontiac as a teenager that would ping and tick as it cooled down after a good run on a cool night. i look back on this with fond memories of good times. the noise is only that- noise. it's not hurting anything though it may annoy you. you might take off the heat shields and end the noise, and then again it might not since the exhast is still going to heat expand and cool contract.  but i promise you that if you or a passenger burns a leg you will wish they were still on and the noise won't be so bothersome. like someone else said, think of it as the bike saying " thanks.....thanks.......thanks.............thanks......... "
