Parents
never used to read parenting books or worry about being "perfect
parents" raising "perfect kids."
They
loved their children and just did the best they could. They set limits,
disciplined when needed, lectured frequently and made kids earn their way in
the home and in life. They weren't afraid of letting their kids handle their
own boredom, disappointments, frustrations, battles and failures. They let
their kids grow up and out of their homes.
Parents
today could learn from these tough love lessons parents used to teach:
1.
Life is difficult. Life in our home won't always be easy. Learning how to
handle your bad days, disappointments and failures as well as your victories,
successes and celebrations is an important lesson.
2.
You won't like all of our decisions. We'll listen to you, but you will not
always get your way. You live in our home, and as long as you do, we promise
not to spoil you by treating you like parents who do! After all, as parents,
we'd rather be respected than liked.
3.
Parents aren't butlers or maids. For a family to go smoothly, everyone must
learn to contribute. You'll have chores until you leave home. If you work too
much to do your chores, a portion of your paycheck may be used to defray the
cost of making up for the chores you don't do. If you can get a better deal,
live there!
4.
Our money is not your money. We worked our way through school and careers to
earn the house, vacations and possessions we have. By learning what it means to
earn your own money and save for things you want, you'll be better prepared for
life. So, even when we can, don't expect us to buy you everything.
5.
If you are bored, that's your choice. It's not our job to schedule your life,
entertain you, rescue you from boredom or ensure your happiness. There's never
nothing to do; choose from the vast array of choices you've been blessed with
by just living in America.
6.
We support teachers, preachers and police officers. We won't automatically take
your side against people in authority. When a teacher says behave, behave. When
you treat those in authority with respect, most will do the same with you.
Outside of evidence of downright abuse, we'll side with responsible adults.
When a police officer stops you, pull over and be polite. If you get in trouble
as a result of your actions, blaming your friends won't work. You're
responsible for you, no matter what others do.
7.
Find your gifts and develop them to achieve realistic dreams. Not all dreams
are realistic. All the dreaming in the world won't make everyone soar like Kobe
Bryant. Life is about admitting your weaknesses, identifying your gifts,
working hard to develop those gifts and then finding a way to use your
strengths to make a living and a satisfying life. Don't settle for copying others.
We're looking forward to watching you use your unique gifts to achieve your own
dreams.
8.
True self-confidence is earned, not given. Some adults may flatter you for just
breathing. Even though we'll love you forever, we love you enough not to shower
you with empty praise. True optimism comes from a track record of hard work in
overcoming obstacles. Confidence comes from bouncing back from disappointments
on the way to achieving successes you can be proud of. We'll let you earn your
confidence the old-fashioned way — by hard work.
9.
Take your life seriously, but yourself lightly. Instead of viewing everything
as a crisis, learn to laugh a little. Someday, even your most embarrassing
moments are going to be great stories worth laughing about. Why wait? Learn to
laugh every day!
10.
Your father and mother know more than you think. Don't believe everything you
learn in school or see on television. Parents aren't stupid. Yes, you have a
mind and will increasingly be given more choices, but we have experience,
common sense and wisdom that we've earned on the way to becoming parents. Get
used to a few lectures. You may not listen now, but you'll appreciate many of
those lectures later in life.
Finally,
know that we love you more than anything in life. We love you enough to give
you limits, say no, discipline you, lecture you, hug you even when you don't
want to be seen with us, take you to church, ground you, send you to your room,
applaud your successes, hold you when you're hurt, and get even with you when we
get to be grandparents to your children.

MILWAUKEE (October 24, 2007) - Harley-Davidson Motor Company will serve as
the Premiere Sponsor of the Inaugural Fresh Coast Basketball Classic. The
Classic will bring four Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU’s) to
Milwaukee Nov. 23 and 24 for a basketball tournament held at the Midwest
Airlines Center.
Participating schools in the Classic include Dillard University from New
Orleans, LA, Langston University from Langston, OK, Lane College from Jackson,
TN and Central State University from Wilberforce, OH.
The event will feature a college and career fair where students can visit
with representatives from the participating schools as well as local colleges
and universities at no charge. Representatives from Harley-Davidson will be
on-hand to discuss the Harley-Davidson Foundation Minority Scholarship program
and career opportunities with students. The fair is open to the public each day
from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
“As a company, we’ve long supported programs that inspire young people to
pursue their education options,” said Harold Scott, Harley-Davidson, Vice
President Human Resources. “The Classic will do that in a fun way, as area
young people and their families will have an opportunity to receive college
information and exposure to the students, athletes and alumni of four great
institutions.”
In addition to sponsorship and educational support, Harley-Davidson will
extend an invitation for attendees to experience the Harley-Davidson brand by
providing product information and displays.
The weekend will also feature a comedy show, gospel event, coach’s clinics
and performances by the Central State University Band.
Organizers believe the Classic will present the city of Milwaukee to new and
diverse visitors and will duplicate the success of HBCU sporting events taking
place in Indiana, Kentucky and other southern states. The Classic has gotten
great support from the Milwaukee business community.
“Harley-Davidson’s leadership has been key to making the Fresh Coast Classic
a success,” said Synovia Youngblood, Chief Executive Officer of the Classic.
“Milwaukee is incredibly fortunate to have a company like Harley-Davidson
championing this effort.”

MILWAUKEE (October 22, 2007) - Screamin' Eagle/Vance & Hines Motorsports
rider Andrew Hines is taking the new NHRA points format all in stride. The
three-time defending NHRA POWERade Pro Stock Motorcycle champion doesn't exactly
know what to expect in the last two events of the season, but he is comforted by
one fact: none of his competitors do either.
Starting this year, NHRA has developed a playoff format for all professional
categories. The top eight competitors in each professional category advanced to
the second round starting with the Aug. 29 U.S. Nationals at Indianapolis. Both
Screamin' Eagle factory riders Hines and Eddie Krawiec were in that group of
eight.
The eight were cut to four following the O'Reilly Fall Nationals at the Texas
Motorplex on Sept. 23.
Hines made the cut. Krawiec didn't. Hines only celebrated for a short time,
realizing the championship would now come down to just eight possible rounds of
competition – four in Las Vegas and four in Pomona, Calif.
Harley-Davidson employees can join fans in watching the Countdown to the
Championship unfold, as the final two races will be covered heavily on ESPN2 and
online at NHRA.com.
The first of the final two events starts Friday in Las Vegas. The seventh
annual ACDelco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals takes place at The Strip at Las Vegas
Motor Speedway. The Auto Club Finals in Pomona will be held Nov. 1-4.
Hines is tied with two other racers, older brother and crew chief Matt Hines
and Angelle Sampey, as the only riders in NHRA history to win three consecutive
titles. If Hines can win the championship this year, he will be the first rider
in NHRA history to win four consecutive crowns.
"It's great to be part of the first Countdown," Hines said. "Leading the
points going into the final two events of the season helps too. That's what we
were aiming for. The only downside to the Countdown that I can see so far is the
added pressure it's put on all of the teams involved. Everyone has just two
races to earn the championship and that's a lot of pressure for anyone, no
matter what you've done in the past. Our team has been working to find new ways
of managing the Countdown, deal with the pressure and prepare for the
races."
While Krawiec is disappointed that he didn't make the final four, he will
still be anxiously watching as a fan – and trying to win a trophy while everyone
else is watching the four Countdown racers.
"I hate that there was a second cut and I'm disappointed we don't have both
Screamin' Eagle bikes in the top four," Krawiec said. "But the season isn't
over. It's possible for me to move up as high as fifth place and if I can finish
with a fifth place in the final standings I will consider that to be a major
accomplishment in my first full season of NHRA racing.
"Some racers who didn't qualify for the top four might want to go into test
mode and start using the last two races as a way to prepare for the 2008 season.
Not me. I want to win. I want to win a race before the season is over so badly
and I know it's going to be tough, but I am going to do whatever I can to make
it happen. I don't have anything to lose at this point and I have a lot to gain.
It should be a fun couple of races."
Hines knows that if anyone can win a championship, it's the guy riding a bike
prepared by the Screamin' Eagle/Vance & Hines Motorsports crew.
"Last year we had a 26-point deficit going into Las Vegas and we won the
championship," Hines said. "This year we have a 10-point lead and the experience
it is going to take to be competitive with all the pressure.
"We're a championship caliber team and that has shown more this year than any
other because we struggled so much at the start but were still able to fight our
way back. The team has so much experience and they make it easier to get out
there and ride the motorcycle. Hopefully the year ends the same way it did last
year and we find a way to win another championship."
Hines should be comforted to know that the fans – Krawiec included – will be
watching every second.
"I think it's pretty exciting," Krawiec said. "Going into the last two races
of the season there isn't any team that has a clear advantage. They are going to
crown a champion in all four categories at Pomona and it could very well come
down to the final round in each category. That's exciting and I can't wait to
see what happens."

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (October 21, 2007) - Deeley H-D/Buell Canada rider Steve
Crevier rode a Buell XBRR to victory in the American Sportbike Racing
Association (ASRA) Pro Superbike race at the 24th Annual Race of Champions at
Daytona International Speedway. At the same event, Deeley H-D/Buell
Canada/Ruthless Racing rider Dave Estok scored a comfortable win in Pro
Thunderbike, capping a season that saw him secure the 2007 ASRA Pro Thunderbike
championship at the previous ASRA National event in Summit Point, W.V.
Crevier, a multiple Canadian National roadracing champion and the 1998 AMA
600 Supersport champion, took the pole for the ASRA Superbike race with a lap of
1:52.817 on the Daytona road course. He then led from the pole in an 8-lap race
run in wet conditions and won by 5.62 seconds. Chris Fillmore was second on a
Kawasaki ZX-6R. Crevier’s victory was the first win for a Buell XBRR at a
National-level event in the United States. Jeff Wood, the 2007 ASRA Pro
Superbike Champion, dropped out of the race after two laps.
Riding in dry-to-wet conditions, Estok was fourth in qualifying for the Pro
Thunderbike race. Richard Cooper was fast qualifier with a lap of 1:59.136 on a
BMW. Estok got a good start and was leading after one lap of the eight-lap
National in dry conditions. On lap two, Hal’s H-D/Buell/Hal’s Speed Shop rider
Dan Bilansky and Deeley H-D/Buell Canada/Ruthless Racing rider Darren James came
together while running second and third, causing both Buell riders to crash.
James was done for the day, but Bilansky, the 2006 ASRA Pro Thunderbike
champion, continued after picking up his motorcycle. Estok cruised to an easy
win, finishing 36.5 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher, BMW R1200S rider
Brad Hendry. Julio Fuentes was third on a Ducati, followed by Olivier Spilborghs
on a Buell XB12R. Bilansky finished the race in 10th position.
Buell riders took the top-five positions in the final ASRA Pro Thunderbike
season standings. Estok finished with 253 points, followed by Bilansky with 183,
Joe Rozynski (Sound Waves/Hal’s Speed Shop) 149, James 147, and Sam Rozynski
(Sound Waves/Hal’s Speed Shop) 135.
In Championship Cup Series (CCS) sprint racing at Daytona, Crevier won Expert
SuperTwins on a Buell XBRR, Bilansky won Expert Thunderbike on a Buell XB12R,
and Hoban Brothers Racing/H-D/Buell of Appleton rider Jeff Johnson won Expert
Lightweight F40 on a Buell XB12R.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (October 20, 2007) - The James Gang Racing/Hoban Brothers
Buell XB12R sponsored by Buell of Appleton and Darkhorse Crankworks and ridden
by Paul James, Jeff Johnson and Walt Sipp finished third in the Grand Sport
Touring (GST) class in the 8 Hours At Daytona, the sixth and final round of the
SunTrust MOTO-ST Series for motorcycle endurance racing. Despite a minor
mid-race crash, the team completed 216 laps of the Daytona International
Speedway road course, and finished three laps behind the class-winning Touring
Sport Ducati entry (Doug Polen/Peter Friedland/Frank Shockley), clinching third
place overall in the final season GST points standings.
“It was a great weekend for our team,” said Hoban Brother’s John Dahmer. “Our
riders clicked off consistent lap times, our pit stops were solid, and our 2008
Buell Thunderstorm engine worked flawlessly. It was a total team effort.”
The Richie Morris Racing/Daytona Harley-Davidson/Buell team was running third
on the same lap as the GST leader when their chain derailed in the third hour of
the event. The Richie Morris Racing team repaired the Buell XB12R and returned
to the race, completing 205 laps to place eighth in GST. The result dropped the
Richie Morris Racing team from first to second in GST season points, 188 to 183,
to Touring Sport Ducati. James Gang Racing finished the season third in GST,
with 181 points.
In the first complete season of the SunTrust MOTO-ST Series, Buell teams won
four of six GST races and at least one Buell team placed on the podium at each
event.
At Daytona, the overall MOTO-ST win and first place in the Buell Motorcycle
Company SuperSport Twins (SST) class went to Roadracingworld.com Suzuki 18
(Chris Ulrich/Gary Mason/Cory West) on a Suzuki SV1000S that completed 234 laps
in 8:01.06.454. The SST class championship was clinched prior to Daytona by
Aprilia USA 1 (Ty Howard/Ben Thompson/Henry Wiles). Eleventh overall and first
in the ST (Sport Twins) class was the Speedwerks 87 Suzuki SV650 (Hawk
Mazzotta/Scott Ryan/Brian Kcraget), which completed 218 laps.

RICHMOND, Va. (October 10, 2007) - NHRA officials running the Winner's Circle
at last weekend's Torco Racing Fuels NHRA Nationals might have been confused
when it came time to crown the winner of the Nitro Top Fuel category.
After all, Tommy Grimes had won each of the last four AHDRA exhibition events
at NHRA races dating back to fall 2005. But this time was different.
Not only did Jay Turner beat Grimes in the second round, but he went on to
win the race too.
Turner beat Phil Schmidt (6.628 seconds to 6.782) in the first round before
topping Grimes (6.740 to 6.811) in the second round. He rode his Harley-Davidson
to the win over Bill Furr in the final after Furr fouled at the starting
line.
"We had a lot of racing fortune come our way over the weekend, but the team
did a great job of putting us in the position to take advantage of the good
luck," Turner said. "We smoked the tires right away in the second round matchup
and if Tommy had made a clean run, I would have lost. But they had a problem too
and I was able to get back in it and win the round. Then Bill ran quicker than
us, but left early. We got lucky this weekend but we were in the position to be
lucky."
Turner said he is a big supporter of AHDRA racers participating in exhibition
events at NHRA national sites.
"It's always great to run in front of big crowds on a great race track,"
Turner said. "Over the years we've made some great friends who race in the Pro
Mod, Pro Stock and other car categories so it was great to see everyone.
"It also helps us gather information. We've made a lot of runs this season
and we've taken the information and we've been able to apply it to wherever we
are. It's been a good season and winning the NHRA event was a lot of fun."
Now Turner and the rest of the AHDRA must change their focus to the final
three events of the AHDRA Screamin' Eagle championship season. Turner is
currently third in the national Top Fuel point standings. Tak Shigematsu is the
points leader with 706, while Doug Vancil is second with 642 and Turner is third
with 554.
The series will continue the regular season this weekend with the Screamin'
Eagle Performance Parts Nationals in Rockingham, N.C. Qualifying begins
Saturday.
"Rockingham is a great race," Turner said. "We always have a big crowd and
the racing is tough. You have to qualify well and make a great pass down the
track every time if you want to win. Last season both ends of the national
record fell at Rockingham and they haven't been touched since. I think with the
weather looking the way it is, that could change this weekend.
"We've been racing at Rockingham for a long time and we have a lot of great
history there. We have strong momentum that we can carry over from Richmond and
I think we're in for another successful showing at Rockingham."

By CECILLE SUERTE FELIPE The Philippine Star
Philippine National Police (PNP)
chief Director General Avelino Razon Jr. has warned officers against
taking their wife or girlfriend to ride with them on a police
motorcycle.
"Sometimes, motorcycle-riding cops
are seen with their wife or girlfriend back-riding these motorcycles,
which gives the impression to the public that (they) are using
government resources for their personal use," he said.
Razon said government vehicles, particularly police motorcycles, are for official use, especially during emergencies.
He said situations may arise when
an officer has to respond to an emergency but cannot do so because his
wife or girlfriend is riding with him.
Razon also ordered police
commanders to ensure that motorcycle policemen wear proper uniform with
the prescribed helmets for protection.
Razon said all escort missions of
PNP motorcycle units must conform to Memorandum Circular 2000-003 that
stipulates guidelines and policies in rendering mobile and motorcycle
escorts to VIPs and foreign dignitaries.
"PNP motorcycles shall be used
primarily in patrolling and not merely for escorting VIPs. It is
prohibited to use (them) during weddings, birthdays and funerals as
escorts," he said.
Razon spelled out the only
exceptions include escorting the President and other high-ranking
government officials, foreign dignitaries, visiting heads of state and
victims needing immediate medical assistance.
He reminded all regional police
directors to strictly observe the PNP’s policy on the use of police
motorcycles to prevent them from being used for personal purposes.
Razon said police motorcycles are no exception to the rule.
He also directed police commanders to see to it that police motorcycles bear license plates.
AMA Flat Track Twins Season Finale in Las Vegas on Saturday
MILWAUKEE (Oct. 4, 2007) – Kenny Coolbeth won the 2007 AMA Flat Track Twins
championship for Harley-Davidson Screamin' Eagle racing last weekend in Tucson,
Ariz., but the season finale is in Las Vegas this weekend.
With the championship clinched, the entire Harley-Davidson Wrecking Crew is
up to the challenge of winning one more trophy. Three of the four Wrecking Crew
riders have combined to win 10 of the 11 events held this season.
Coolbeth has claimed six wins for the factory sponsored Screamin' Eagle team.
Jared Mees has earned three wins for his Blue Springs Harley-Davidson squad and
Joe Kopp has earned one win for his Team Latus Harley-Davidson team.
The fourth Wrecking Crew rider, Bryan Smith, has locked up third place in the
final Twins standings matching his 2006 finish. Smith still wants to win a race
for his Pat Moroney's Harley-Davidson team before the season is over. He has one
last chance.
The season finale will be held at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Saturday.
"Hopefully I can get the win this weekend," Smith said. "A win would be the
best way to finish the season right. We've struggled this season but have still
been able to keep our third place in the standings. But we've had some things go
wrong throughout the season. We broke a motor, a transmission; I crashed last
weekend in Tucson for no apparent reason. It's a long list of mistakes that
we've made and I think we have too good of a team to not earn a win.
"We're going out there this weekend with nothing but winning a great race in
our heads. We've learned from our mistakes and I would like to finish the season
strong and come out fighting for a championship in 2008."
Mees has locked up second place – also matching his 2006 finish – and is
anxious to race at an event without the points standings on his mind.
"When you're in the battle for a championship you are less likely to take
major risks," Mees said. "You have to take a few chances now and then to be in
the hunt for a championship, but you can't take major risks. Now that the title
chase is over, we can go out and race for fun. There's just some cash and a
trophy on the line and all we have to worry about is putting on a good show.
"It's disappointing knowing that the championship chase is over and we didn't
win the title, but we gave it our best shot and I think we did better than last
year and that was one of our big goals coming into the season. I just want to do
better than the previous year. If we can win the final race of the season, it
will give our Blue Springs team positive momentum going into the off-season."
Kopp won the event last weekend, helping to salvage a season where the
results have come up short against his preseason expectations.
"The win helped the season a lot," Kopp said. "It seems like we've faced new
challenges every week like a flat tire, the bike having problems and a few other
things that kept us from really getting into the championship mix. The win gave
us back some confidence and it would be great to make it two wins in a row."
Kopp's points position isn't final. He's hoping that another great weekend
can move him up from his sixth-place.
"It's still possible for us to move up and that would be just incredible,"
Kopp said. "But more than anything, we're going to Las Vegas to have some fun
and ride a great race. They put some new dirt down on the track and it should be
a great surface for us. It would be great to put a point on the season and win
the finale. That's our goal."

http://www.nbc-2.com/articles/readarticle.asp?articleid=15032&z=3&p= LEE COUNTY:
Authorities say they have shut down a massive motorcycle theft ring
that stole almost $400,000 worth of sport bikes from all over Southwest
Florida.
The Lee
County Sheriff's Office noticed a drastic rise in motorcycle thefts
back in February. An initial investigation revealed that the problem
was widespread and that bikes were being stolen all over the area.
Several local law enforcement agencies teamed up for "Operation Throttle Down."
Investigators from Lee
County Sheriff’s Office, Attorney General’s Office, Office of Statewide
Prosecution, Cape Coral Police Department, National Insurance Crime
Bureau, the Fort Myers Police Department and Collier County Sheriff’s
Office joined in.
Through their collaborative efforts, detectives were able to identify a group of "key players" from Lee County.
They
determined that the group was directly or indirectly responsible for
the theft of approximately $400,000 worth of motorcycles since the
beginning of the year.
Investigators say the group was chopping up the stolen motorcycles and selling their parts.
Authorities issued warrants for 13 people and on Thursday arrested 11 of them, but two are still on the run.
The suspects
face a range for charges including, operating a chop shop, grand theft
auto, dealing in stolen property, possession of vehicle with altered
vehicle identification number and title fraud.
Michael
Medellin, 32, is facing the most serious charges. Authorities also
filed a civil lawsuit against him in August after finding 67 motorcycle
parts in the garage of his Cape Coral home.
According to court documents, a motorcycle engine found in Medellin's garage was allegedly stolen from Fort Myers.
Detectives
seized all of the motorcycle parts and filed a forfeiture lawsuit so
authorities can eventually return the parts to their owners.

Milwaukee area students will experience the works of Hispanic artist
Martín Ramírez
Milwaukee (October 3, 2007) — Funded by a grant from the Harley-Davidson
Foundation, twenty-five hundred Milwaukee area children from thirty-four
predominantly Hispanic schools will be able to see and learn from the works of
legendary 20th century Mexican artist Martín Ramírez. The docent-guided tours
will be conducted by staff at the Milwaukee Art Museum.
Starting October 6, participating schools will receive up to two free bus
trips to the Museum along with free admission for students, teachers and
chaperones. The Museum is training 180 docents to provide Ramírez school tours
offered in English and Spanish.
“Ramirez is a remarkable self-taught artist whose work is rich with
expressive power,” said Gail Lione, President of the Harley-Davidson Foundation.
“We’re very proud to make his art accessible to students at Milwaukee area
bilingual schools so they can see and learn from his work.”
Martin Ramírez (1885-1960), was born in Jalisco, Mexico. He moved to the
United States around 1925. He created nearly 300 drawings of extraordinary
visual clarity within the confines of DeWitt State Hospital in northern
California, where he resided the last 15 years of his life. He is most
appreciated for complex multilayered drawings.
Eighty drawings by Ramírez, whose art and inspiring personal achievements
will be on display at the Milwaukee Art Museum October 6, 2007 through January
13, 2008.
Funding for the Ramirez exhibit education program is just one of several
Hispanic focused programs supported by the Harley-Davidson Foundation. Milwaukee
area projects currently serving Hispanics and receiving funding from the
Foundation include health and education programming at the United Community
Center, adult literacy programs at Milwaukee’s Journey House and youth
development programs at the Latino Community Center.
The Harley-Davidson Foundation was established to support the communities in
which the company has facilities and employees. The majority of the Foundation's
investments are in the areas of education and community revitalization with
funds also supporting programs in arts and culture, health, the environment and
national veteran's initiatives.
In additional to community program support, the company is also supporting
initiatives that extend an invitation for Hispanics to experience the
Harley-Davidson brand. Earlier this year, Harley-Davidson sponsored special
motorcycle activities at Milwaukee’s Mexican Fiesta in an effort to connect with
the local community of riders and the Hispanic community at large. The company
has also developed key relationships with Hispanic riding organizations,
specifically the Latin American Motorcycle Association (LAMA), the nation’s
largest Hispanic motorcycle club.

Wrecking Crew Rider Joe Kopp Wins First Race of the Season
TUCSON (Oct. 1, 2007) – To put it mildly, Saturday was a great night for
Harley-Davidson racing at the AMA Flat Track Twins Ford Quality Checked
Championship event at USA Race Park.
On any other night throughout the season, Joe Kopp's win would be reason
enough to celebrate. The 2000 AMA Grand National champion finally put his Team
Latus/Screamin' Eagle Harley-Davidson into the win column. It was the veteran's
first win this season and 12th of his career. And he battled the defending
series champion, Kenny Coolbeth, the entire race.
On any other night, that would have been the talk of the town. But while
Coolbeth couldn't steal the win, he did steal the spotlight.
Coolbeth claimed his second consecutive AMA Twins Flat Track championship
Saturday. Coolbeth went into the race with a 19-point lead over second place
rider Jared Mees and the Blue Springs/Screamin' Eagle team. Coolbeth's second
place finish combined with Mees' fourth place finish gave him the championship
with one race remaining this season.
"I never thought it would have been possible to win the championship before
the final race of the season," Coolbeth said. "The competition out here is so
tough and Jared really made me earn it this season. He forced me to step up my
riding and that made for an even better championship battle.
"Winning the championship with a new team last year was amazing but this
year's championship means more. My team worked so hard and we worked so much
better together having one year of experience behind us. My crew members Craig
Lager, Ryan Cross, Brad Bishop and Matt Hernigle gave me the best equipment on
the track and that took a lot of the pressure off me all season."
Coolbeth has claimed six race victories this season. He also has three second
place finishes. He's been off the podium just twice. Coolbeth has 15 career wins
to go with his two series championships.
"It's an understatement to say how proud we are of Kenny and the entire
factory crew," Harley-Davidson Racing Manager Anne Paluso said. "He's had a
great season and he earned that championship with consistently great races.
"Last year was the first season we brought back the Wrecking Crew and our
team won five races and Kenny won his first AMA Twins championship. This year
the teams have done even better. They worked really hard during the offseason to
be able to come out and compete and their efforts have paid off in the form of
10 Wrecking Crew victories this season and another championship. We're very
proud of all four teams."
They may have finished in the top two, but neither Kopp nor Coolbeth was
first off the line on Saturday. Rich King took the lead early. After a red flag
restart, King was again in the lead on his Corbin Seats Harley-Davidson. But
Coolbeth and Kopp were able to get by on the first lap. Shortly after that,
Coolbeth slipped slightly in turn four and Kopp took advantage and got by
Coolbeth for the lead.
Kopp never relinquished the top spot after that.
"I had raced my way up from sixth to second place in one of my heat races and
I knew then that I could pass if I had to," Kopp said. "Kenny bobbled once and I
took the lead. He pushed me and pushed me, and I had to make sure I didn't make
any mistakes because he would get by. He was right on me the entire race.
"This win wasn't a gimme. Kenny made me earn it and I wouldn't have it any
other way. It was a great race and it restored some of the confidence I had lost
throughout the season."
While Kopp finished first and Coolbeth second, Wrecking Crew riders Mees and
Bryan Smith (Pat Moroney's Harley-Davidson) finished in fourth and 13th place,
respectively. Mees maintains his second place in the standings. Smith is in
third place and Kopp moved up into the No. 6 spot, just 14 points out of fourth
place.
Coolbeth may have wrapped up the title but there is still one more trophy up
for grabs this weekend when the Harley-Davidson Wrecking Crew joins the rest of
the AMA Flat Track Twins racers in Las Vegas. Kopp still has a few things he
would like to accomplish before the season is over.
"A few things need to happen, but I would like to see if I can't climb my way
up into fourth place," Kopp said. "It would be great to see the Wrecking Crew
riders in first through fourth place in the final standings. It's the last race
of the season and everyone is going to be gunning for the final trophy. The win
in Tucson has given me more confidence so I'm hoping to turn that into to one
more race victory."
Coolbeth might be the biggest threat to Kopp once again as the champion
suddenly is riding without the pressure of the point standings.
"The pressure to win a championship is over, but the desire to win another
race is huge," Coolbeth said. "This might be the most fun at the race track I
can have in a long time. I can't remember the last time I was racing just to win
a trophy and not worrying about anything else. The season finale is in Las Vegas
and I can't think of a better way to finish the season."
The AMA Twins finale at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas takes place
Saturday.

Screamin' Eagle Riders Will Race at Tucson and Las Vegas to Finish
Season
MILWAUKEE (Sept. 25, 2007) – Screamin' Eagle Harley-Davidson rider Kenny
Coolbeth has earned six victories this AMA Flat Track Twins Ford Quality Checked
Championship season. His Wrecking Crew teammate Jared Mees has earned three wins
this season.
With two races remaining this season, the two Wrecking Crew riders are the
championship contenders. Coolbeth – the defending AMA Twins series champion –
has a 19-point lead going into this Saturday's AMA Twins event at USA Race Park
in Tucson, Ariz.
It might scare the rest of the competition, but Coolbeth said he's more
excited about the last two events of this season than he has ever been.
"If I had to pick the schedule, I would pick Tucson and Las Vegas to race at
to close out the season," Coolbeth said. "I'm really anxious and excited about
the last two races. I just want our team to keep doing what we've been doing.
We've worked hard all year long to be in the position to defend our
championship.
"I've been training so hard and I think I've developed a good routine and I
think that has really helped me be even more mentally strong going into the end
of the season. It's been such a fun season and the battle with Jared has just
made it a more exciting season."
USA Race Park is a new addition to the AMA Flat Track schedule. The clay
surface fits right into Coolbeth's style of riding.
"It's a three-eighth's mile clay facility and I love that," Coolbeth said. "I
am going there with a goal of winning, but anyone can win on a new track. It's
all about who can figure out the best setup first and that creates great
competition for the race."
Only one other rider, Chris Carr, has earned a win besides Coolbeth and Mees
this season. Mees wants to keep it that way and put his Blue Springs
Harley-Davidson team in the win column two more times this season.
"I want to win the last two races and finish the season strong," Mees said.
"No one has setup sheets for this race but my team has proven to be able to come
up with a great setup quickly all season.
"It's going to be nice to be on the Western side of the country. Hopefully
we'll have some warmer weather and we can have some great racing."
Coolbeth and Mees' idea of great racing is nearly the same. They know they
have to battle the entire field of qualifying riders but they must really battle
each other.
"Anyone can win any race out here because the talent of the riders is so
great," Coolbeth said. "I'm surprised that Jared and I have won as many races as
we have this season but I guess we are just the most hungry riders out there and
it shows. The championship is on the line and I have to make sure I finish ahead
of Jared."
Mees is comforted that the worst situation puts him in second place –
matching his 2006 season results.
"It's been a heck of a battle between Kenny and I this year," Mees said. "He
won the first race, then I won the next three and then Kenny just set sail from
there. He has done a great job and I'm thrilled that at least we wrapped up
second place and we so far have matched last season's finish. I always aim to do
better than the season before and we've done that on many levels."
With just two races left Coolbeth is focused on maintaining his consistently
successful season.
"I think I'm in a good position going into the final two events," Coolbeth
said. "The only pressure I have right now is the pressure I place upon myself.
Jared is right there in the standings and I know it's not over by a long shot so
I have to just be confident and consistent. It's nice knowing we have a weekend
off so I can train some more before the final two races.
"My team has the equipment to a near-flawless condition so it's up to me to
do my job and hold up my end of the bargain."

Hines Makes Third and Final Countdown Group
ENNIS, Texas (Sept. 24, 2007) – Andrew Hines earned his 21st career final
round appearance and a spot in the NHRA POWERade Countdown to the Championship
Sunday at the Texas Motorplex.
The 24-year-old three-time NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle champion clinched a
position in the final round of the Countdown points system. The top four riders
in the category will have two events, the Oct. 28 ACDelco Las Vegas NHRA
Nationals in Las Vegas and the Nov. 4 Auto Club of Southern California NHRA
Finals in Pomona, Calif., to compete for the 2007 championship.
Sunday, however, Hines was battling for another victory. Hines came up just
short of adding to the four victories he has already posted this season.
Hines posted round victories over Tom Bradford and the Sportsman Channel
Buell team, Angelle Sampey and the U.S. Army Suzuki team and Matt Smith and the
Torco Racing Fuels Buell before losing to Peggy Llewellyn in the final round of
the O'Reilly NHRA Fall Nationals.
Llewellyn recorded a 7.020-second pass at 190 mph on her Rush Racing Products
Buell to beat Hines' 7.007 at 191.16 on his V-Rod. The race was won on the
starting line as Llewellyn left with a .010 reaction time to cover Hines' .045.
"It's unfortunate that we didn't come away with the win but it's really
important that we clinched one of the four positions for the Countdown," Hines
said. "Now we have four weeks off to get back to the shop and do some
development work on the V-Rods and see if we can get an edge going into the
final two races of the season."
Screamin' Eagle teammate Eddie Krawiec beat Antron Brown and the U.S. Army
team in the first round before losing to Chip Ellis and the Drag Specialties
S&S Buell in the second round.
Krawiec is currently in eighth place in the Pro Stock Motorcycle standings –
and out of the Countdown.
"It was great winning the first round but it seems like we always race one of
the top competitors in the second round," Krawiec said. "Chip was the quickest
of the session in the second round and he got by me. We're making strides and
even though we didn't make the third round of the Countdown I think we have a
good goal ahead of us of just trying to jump into fifth place."
Hines qualified in the No. 2 position. It was the 10th time this season Hines
has qualified in the top three. Krawiec qualified in the No. 8 position. It's
the sixth time he's qualified in the top half of the field.
"We're thrilled that Andrew earned another trip to the finals and clinched a
position in the third round of the Countdown," Harley-Davidson Racing Manager
Anne Paluso said. "The team has worked so hard to get into the Countdown and
we're proud of the Vance & Hines crew at the track as well as all of the
people who work on this program back at the shop."
Neither Hines nor Krawiec had raced on the all-concrete quarter-mile track at
the Texas Motorplex prior to this weekend. The last time the two-wheel category
had been to the Motorplex was in 2000.
"It was nice to be at the Motorplex after all these years and I think the
fans were happy too," Krawiec said. "The crowd was such an enthusiastic
supporter of the Pro Stock Motorcycle category and I can't believe how many
autographs we signed this weekend. It was a great welcome back to the Texas
Motorplex."
The next NHRA POWERade drag racing series event featuring the Pro Stock
Motorcycle category is the Oct. 25-28 ACDelco NHRA Las Vegas Nationals at The
Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas.
