Helmet law proposal?
Posted On 02/27/2008 19:48:44
First of all I would like to thank everyone who was involved with this issue, all by their own choice. There were so many, most I know, a few I dont. The job got done, THANK YOU

Secondly, I feel that this should be an eye-opener for ABATE. This was not caught by anyone, myself included until 4 days AFTER The bill was released. It had been assigned a bill #, but was a "blind" bill[content not released. What if this would have been released 1 or 2 days, or weeksearlier, would we have been so lucky?? I was notified by a AIM attorney, http://www.aimncom.com , who was at a hearing on another issue, his message to me was as follows:

" I AM SURE THAT ABATE IS AWARE OF HB 463, BUT I THOUGHT I WOULD CHECK AND SEE IF I CAN HELP IN ANY WAY"

That was Monday morning. The language on the bill had been released on Thursday. Four days had past, it was public knowledge.

That is how we were made aware of this HELMET LAW PROPOSAL. Rep. Hansen issued HB 463 for a constituent. He was neither for or against it.[from the e-mail I received] He delayed [ I think] the release for that reason. What if it had been proposed by someone who really wanted it to succeed??? If it had been a bill written to succeed, we would have had a fight on our hands., We were caught with our pants down, we had no plan, we were not organized, we werent paying attention. The main function of ABATES existence lasts mainly for the duration of the legislative session. We failed.

When Rocky tried this last year for SLC, I thought there would have been some sort of a planned reaction to these scenarios put into place. Someone had inquired about setting up a meeting to decide what we should do while this was taking place. That is a good plan, but needs to be done beforehand. THERE IS NO TIME FOR DISCUSSION. The last helmet law proposal [before my time, but I have heard the story from several reliable sources] was put on the floor in the afternoon before legislation for the day was to end. It was to be voted on the next morning at 9am. It was shot down by the old "phone tree" system. People showed up, expressed their concerns, Talked to some representatives, and it was defeated.

Utah law says a bill must be issued, and cannot be voted on the same day of issuance. But it can be voted on the following day, or next week. IT DOES NOT HAVE TO SIT AROUND FOR ANY LENGTH OF TIME, EXCEPT OVERNIGHT!!

We need to be prepared; we need to focus on this and MAKE HELMET LAWS AND MOTORCYCLISTS RIGHTS AN PRIORITY!! Isn
t that what ABATE is about??? Have we become so involved at looking at the forest we cant see the trees?? I feel with all of the local, state and federal helmet laws going on throughout the country, and the world as far as that goes, this is just one of many more fights to come.

Once again, thanks to all who were involved, both ABATE Members, non-ABATE Motorcyclists, and those who just care about personnel freedoms.

Bill Evans,

Freedom Fighter, ABATE of Utah

The battle for bikers' rights is not about patches, parties or poker runs.

We fight to protect the freedom and promote the interests of American motorcyclists ...

to defend our right to choose our own modes of transportation, attire and lifestyle ...

to deter and defy discrimination against us ...

and to vanquish those who violate our rights or right-of-way.

COLORS SOUGHT FOR MOTORCYCLE MUSEUM

COLORS SOUGHT FOR MOTORCYCLE MUSEUM

The Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame is seeking vests with patches to expand an existing exhibit about motorcycle clubs.

"I'm looking to reach out to Motorcycle Clubs who might be willing to have their colors on display," said Christine Paige Diers, Executive Director of the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame in South Dakota.

"One of the exhibits we've had on display for the last six to eight months is an exhibit about Motorcycle Clubs," explained Diers. "As part of the exhibit, we had a number of vests with patches representing a variety of clubs. Unfortunately, the owner of those patches has reclaimed his collection. We're in the process of trying to rebuild the display and are looking for clubs that might be interested."

The idea of this exhibit is to educate the public about the history of motorcycling and present a fair-minded representation of motorcycle clubs in their many forms, she said. "I'd like to rebuild the exhibit with themed sections to display, including women's clubs, family oriented clubs, law enforcement clubs and veterans clubs."

Anyone interested in loaning a jacket, vest or patch, or even a photo, to the museum for a time period of one to two years, along with a brief club description or history, should contact her at christine@sturgismuseum.com or phone 605-347-2001.

UMF who are we?
Posted On 02/03/2008 09:12:43

Who the Hell We Are

The UMF of America is a "Men's Social Organization" founded in July, 1982 in San Diego, Ca. Our founding father was "Moko Joe" (UMF #1), an escaped lunatic from Hawaii. The express purpose of the organization was to take the vote away from women and take back the identity of men from those political and social organizations who endeavor to take away men's god given right of masculine and profane behavior in an attempt to mold into something other than what they are: Ugly Mother Fuckers. Having run into some heavy resistance from the US Congress we fell in with some bad company and have been drunk and/or loaded ever since.

The UMF of America is NOT a Motorcycle Club. The UMF is a Social Club, and is not political in nature. Some members of the UMF are interested in motorcycles, and some are not. In that UMF membership and the founding charter are not focused on motorcycles, the UMF shall never be a Motorcycle Club, as it would alienate a large portion of its members. Motorcycle club "support" patches will not be displayed by UMF members on their vests, jackets or vehicles. This is contrary to our neutral status.

The UMF membership is comprised of men from all walks of life with the same common interests; Partying, Camaraderie, Partying with our comrades, Partying, Lewd Women, Partying with Lewd Women, and just plain ole partying wherever a party may be found or started.

If this sounds like your kind of crowd, check out the "other stuff" page!
If you're REALLY interested - These are our
Officers! Yup, the guys that we voted to be in charge..

The UMF "Constitution" as it was originally written

The "UGLY Mother Fuckers of America"was founded in July,1982 in San Diego, Ca. Our founding father was "Moko Joe" (UMF#1), an escaped lunatic from Hawaii. The express purpose of the club was to take the vote away from women. Having run into some heavy resistance from the US Congress, we fell in with some bad company and have been drunk and/or loaded ever since. We have members in Norway, Australia, Japan, Hawaii, Cuba, Mexico, Canada, Philippines, and other places too rude to mention. Most of the Philipino members are Pilipino Pighter Pilots, so we'll always have a pair of plyers. The vast majority of the membership is patriotic, but we don't get involved much in politics. We did mount a massive campaign to defeat the California motorcycle helmet bill. We also voted to write and congratulate Col. Ollie North on his fight with the "Commie-Pinko Fags" in Washington. The secretary -treasurer has been drunk however, and is not sure whether he mailed the letter or shredded it. Members must be ugly and at least twenty-one (21) years old. It helps if you know Joe as in "Joe Mama". You'll often see us in collusion with lewd women, but females are strictly forbidden from membership. If you are interested in joining this sleazy outfit, kindly fill in the enclosed membership application.

"NOT JUST ANOTHER PRETTY FACE I'AM AN UGLY MOTHER FUCKER"

"BEAUTY IS ONLY SKIN DEEP, UGLY GOES TO THE BONE"

"FRIENDS DON'T LET FRIENDS SAY NO TO DRUGS"

"WE'LL EAT NO SWINE BEFORE HER TIME"

"WE MAY NOT GO DOWN IN HISTORY, BUT WE WILL GO DOWN ON YOUR LITTLE SISTER"

WE BELIEVE IN THE HONOR SYSTEM, "GET ON HER AND STAY ON HER"

Lets Get This Party Started!

Kill A Biker Go to Jail
Current mood: aggravated
Category: News and Politics

Please visit Save A Biker at:
www.SaveABiker.com

Your name and e-mail address will NEVER be given out for any reason other than this petition!

The ultimate goal for this petition is to STRENGTHEN the current punishments, not to create more laws!

To:  U.S.Congress

Each and every day, distracted and inattentive drivers pull out in front of, follow too close or simply "mow over" motorcycles. Bikers are being injured and killed because of carelessness. Most of the time, the drivers receive a warning, simple citation, slap on the wrist or less.

If you pull a gun out and accidentally shoot someone, you most likely get tried for Involuntary Manslaughter.

If you hit someone on a bike and kill him or her, you get a ticket.

We would like for congress to pass legislation to strengthen punishments for drivers who kill.

Some states have tried to take action but it's time the federal government gets involved.

The statement "Kill a Biker, Go To Jail" is nothing new, but it must become a fact of life for drivers who carelessly murder bikers.

Most bikers ride in fear, knowing that if they get run over, the penalty is great for them, but not the careless driver that did them in!

If you support the right to live and ride, without the fear of some lowlife running you over and getting away with it, please sign this petition.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

THE GREAT HANDS-FREE HOAX‏

THE GREAT HANDS-FREE HOAX

How "Feel-Good" Cell Phone Bans Cost Lives & Livelihoods

America is in a recession, a recession that many say will get worse before it gets better. And although the powers that be waited far too long before uttering the "R" word, there are some who predict the "D" word may apply before year's end. Call it what you will, but thanks to a myriad of factors for which we all are to some degree responsible, our economy is in a mess. And what do our politicos propose as the solution? Why an "economic stimulus package", of course! Free money for everybody! Whoo-Hoo!

The deal Dubya and the Demos have on the table right now will give most taxpayers a rebate of a few hundred dollars--about $150 billion in total--the idea being we'll all run out and spend it, and that our spending will put the economy back on track. That's what they think will happen, but this article explains what will actually happen:

http://tinyurl.com/22zpv5

Uncle Sam doesn't have $150 billion to give away, so our government will have to borrow the money, and increase the national debt at a time when our country is all but bankrupt. And what are we likely to do with the money we get? A few hundred bucks is not enough to invest, so most of us will probably rush out to Wal-Mart or Target and blow it on consumer goods ... products made mostly in China and other foreign nations ... increasingly our already astronomical trade deficit.

That's not what the wizards in Washington intended, is it? But it would certainly be yet another example of our government's uncanny propensity to perpetuate the Law of Unintended Consequences above all others:

http://tinyurl.com/zuqya

Yet another example of this regrettable phenomenon can be found in the wave of new legislation aimed at saving lives by restricting the use of cell phones while driving to reduce the number of accidents and casualties attributable to distracted motorists. The intention of this legislation may be to force--or at least encourage--motorists to Hang Up and Drive...

http://tinyurl.com/2939tz

...but is that likely to be the actual consequence? Perhaps not, and I'll explain why:

On this overview of State Cell Phone Driving Laws maintained at GHSA.gov...

http://tinyurl.com/39hfe7

...the Governors Highway Safety Association notes that despite the dozens of laws in place and hundreds of bills proposed, "No state completely bans all types of cell phone use (handheld and hands-free) while driving." In other words, most cell bans apply only to hand-held devices, and contain loopholes that allow the conversations--and therefore the distraction--to continue using hands-free technology. As I have stated before, it is the conversation, and not the device, that creates the distraction. Here is what the Center for Auto Safety's Executive Director Clarence Ditlow said in his January 2007 letter to NHTSA's Nicole Nason:

"Research has consistently shown that operating a motor vehicle while talking on a cell phone--whether hand-held or hands-free--increases the risk of an accident to three to four times the experience of attentive drivers. The general consensus of the scientific community is that there is little, if any, difference in crash rates involving hands-free versus hand-held cell phones. The two-way conversation on a cellular phone, not the task of holding the phone, causes a cognitive distraction. This distraction induces 'inattention blindness,' inhibiting drivers' abilities to detect change in road conditions."

http://tinyurl.com/2hp4d9

Despite the incontrovertible evidence that remote conversations on hands-free devices are just as distracting--and therefore just as dangerous--as those conveyed via hand-held units, legions of unenlightened legislators from coast to coast are seeking to garner media attention and public favor by proposing laws that restrict only the use of hand-held devices while driving. In the Florida statehouse, for example, we currently have no less than eight different bills proposed that would restrict the use of cell phones while driving (H0175/S0266, H0193/S0504, H0357/S1266, S0680 and S1314). Only two of them apply to hands-free as well as hand-held devices (S0680 and S1314), and they are the only two with no companion.

And what will the likely consequence of all these "feel-good" measures be? To be sure, many lives that might have been saved by focusing on the distraction rather than the device will still be lost. And beyond that, well let's see... After Chicago implemented a partial cell phone driving ban, the telecom industry reported that "Sales of hands-free headsets are being spurred by a new law [that] will result in $50 fines for driving with a cell phone pressed to your ear."

http://tinyurl.com/ytupjb

The same thing happened in California, where banning only hand-held cell phones while driving generated a "...boost in the sales of hands-free accessories, such as Blue Tooth ear pieces and speaker-phone car kits."

http://tinyurl.com/2hnf8z

And in Pennsylvania recently, the mere rumor of an impending ban on hand-held devices "...caused some wireless sales to soar."

http://tinyurl.com/ynvr4t

So regardless of legislative intent, about the only actual consequence we can count on from half-way measures and partial cell phone bans is a boom in the sale of mobile telecommunications products employing hands-free technology like BlueTooth. And where are those products made? Well according to this Global Sources Bluetooth Headset Manufacturers & Suppliers directory...

http://tinyurl.com/25ws3d

...of the 443 suppliers listed, 434 (98%) are based in China (Mainland, Hong Kong, Taiwan), 4 in Korea, 1 each in Singapore and the Philippines, and only 3 in the U.S.

Bad news, but there is one potential upside here: If nothing else, all those partial cell phone bans are bound to funnel millions of dollars--and with them thousands of jobs--overseas. That will leave many Americans with less money to spend on cars and gas ... which should reduce the number of vehicles on the road, the number of miles we travel, and thereby the number of traffic accidents. So, we just might end up saving a life or two after all!

Doctors vs Guns
Posted On 01/06/2008 17:48:37

Doctors:
(A) The number of doctors in the U.S. is 700,000
(B) Accidental deaths caused by physicians per year are 120,000
(C) Accidental deaths per physician is 17.14%

*  Statistics courtesy of the U.S. Dept of Health &Human Services

Guns:
(A) The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 80,000,000

(yes that's 80 million)
(B) The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all

age groups, is 1,500
(C) The number of accidental deaths per gun owner

is  0.001875%

*  Statistics courtesy of the FBI

So statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times

more dangerous than gun owners.

Remember, guns don't kill people, doctors do.

Not everyone has a gun, but almost everyone has

at least one doctor.

Please alert your friends to this alarming threat. We must

ban doctors before this gets completely out of hand!!!

Out of concern for the public at large, we have withheld

statistics on lawyers for fear the shock would cause people

to panic and seek medical attention.
