The 2008 Netta Run plans thus far...
Posted On 03/22/2008 03:21:34
Hello everyone, update on the Netta Run 2008, we are looking at the date of August 3rd this year a Sunday.  It will be a long, simple beautiful ride along the coast exactly like "2006", the origional run.  Netta's favorite. Take off location TBA potentially from Beverly and ending in Salisbury at Kittens.  Receiving much support from the MMA and will be doing a 50/50 in support of the Motorcyclist Survivor Fund , in lieu of their support for us.  Stay tuned to http://www.nettas-run.com/  for updates.  For those who helped last year please let me know if you can help this year.  Sponsors will not be as necessary this year for all monies raised from the ride itself will go directlyto LCA.  Food will be provided of course at a cost payable to Kittens, Kittens will donate directly to LCA.  We are looking at inside and outside food entertainment. Possibly a band outside, the usual entertainment inside.  The choice to stay will be up to the individual riders. Of course all who do not ride are inviting to gather and greet us as we continue to raise awareness for Lung Cancer. The main focus is the actual Ride in Netta's honor .
Blessed Be,
Maria

To have experienced being loved by Netta, or by any person, should fill us with awe-for we have been blessed.

The Barbara Sheehan Story

Another very important person who was instrumental in the success of the first Netta Run was a woman named Barbara Sheehan. She was a selectman for the town of Groveland. When Maria approached her for permission for use of the Groveland Pines, Barbara went above and beyond for the cause. Unknown to Maria and many others who knew her, at the time the Netta Run was being organized Barbara Sheehan had Lung Cancer herself. Three months after the event, Barbara also died of Lung Cancer. Maria, a proud resident of Groveland, mentions how much Barbara Sheehan did for the town and it's community. She was the voice to approve Veasy Park among many other things. She left behind a large loving family and many grandchildren. In appreciation for all she has done for the Groveland community and her time and devotion on the Netta Run, we also honor Barbara Sheehan on this ride.

It is errie to think that after death, parts of our identity will live on in cyberspace now.  But it is nice to read this once in a while to be reminded of how great Netta's spirit was.

Antonia C. Sala "Netta" born November 15th, 1954 was only 51 years old when she passed away on April 11th 2006. She was an East Boston native who resided in Melrose Massachusetts with her husband, Mark Herbert. Netta was the most loving, caring, selfless, thoughtful and spiritual person ever known to her friends and family. She also left behind a beautiful daughter whom she raised on her own, Hanna Marcinkowski. Hanna was born severely retarded and autistic. Although she died of lung cancer, Netta also lived with lupus. While many would say she had a life filled with many challenges, Netta believed just the opposite of her life. She lived each and every day with gratitude and perseverance. She never turned her back on anyone who needed help or guidance. And despite her pain that she lived with for many years, she was always smiling. Netta was an amazing person who helped so many people throughout the course of her short life. She is missed by so many people. Netta loved motorcycles and loved to travel.

Netta and Maria Hurley, who founded The Netta Run in 2006, became friends about 10 years ago. Netta and Maria rode many miles on their Harleys together. They both participated together in charity rides and events such as the Ronald McDonald ride, MSPCA, Horse Rescue, Lacey Packer, Toys for Tots and many others. Maria being a motorcycle enthusiast for over 20 years was a road captain for Boston Hog and over the years headed up bike blessings and a variety of motorcycle events.

When Netta was diagnosed with Lung Cancer, Maria wanted to do something positive that would make a difference. She planned the ride with Netta to raise awareness for this illness. Together they picked the date for the first ever Netta Run. Maria had t-shirts made and coordinated the logo design with Atkinson Graphics. Netta got to see this logo before she died and loved it. Just knowing about the ride made her very happy. Maria now plans for this ride to be an annual event to honor and remember Netta for the beautiful person she was and to raise awareness for the suffering lung cancer has caused.
